Baptisms are Coming... 2/9/2015

Dear Family,

No baptisms are happening here in Suriname yet, but I got some exciting news from St. Vincent! Two Saturday's ago Sasha was baptized and this past Saturday Ryno was baptized!!!!! WOW! Isn't that so cool?! I have to say I was sad to not have been there but it feels good to have been a part of it. I can't believe I found Ryno and now he's a member. Nick is getting baptized this coming Saturday too. It makes me so happy. I wish I could have been there. Sister Sommer wrote me and told me that a couple weeks ago Nick had a dream and saw Sister Sommer and me coming towards him with a message. I'm glad to know that I'll always be a part of their lives now.

Now, Suriname on the other hand...no baptisms yet! Ernesto was all ready to go for this Satuday but he didn't come to church on Sunday so we are pushing his baptism until February the 21st. He's a really good kid! He's a little lazy and loves football- haha, but what are you gonna do. I'm excited for him!

Sad news with Faizel. We had a lesson with him and he basically said he doesn't want to get baptized anymore becuase of the tea and coffee thing. WOW! He was so open and was coming to church every week and then bam--up goes the wall. He said he gave the Word of Wisdom pamphlet to a Fullness of the Gospel church lady and that she was going to pick him up for church. I feel like we did our complete best with him and had 4 SUPER spiritual lessons all about tea and coffee. But the spirit can only carry it to the heart--not into the heart. He's just too closed right now. Maybe it's not the right time!

Mohan...I don't really know how to describe him honestly. He's a good man. I'm gonna keep teaching him until I feel otherwise. He always studies what we leave him. He loves everything we teach him. He didn't come to church yesterday though so we've gotta get him to come.

The Sabayo family are doing well! It's hard to tell how much they are really being converted. We only had one lesson with them this week and it wasn't very spirit filled. I hope we can help them. We have to do a lot more finding this week. I want to find those that are prepared! We still have a pretty small teaching pool but yes, it is increasing. I remember the first week I got here we had like 7 lessons in one week...that is not good. Now we have about 14. Still not the best but definitely getting better. In St. Vincent we would get like 25 lessons easy. But they are two complete different places. In St. Vincent everyone was Christian. Everyone was soo nice and open. I'm sure it helped that I spoke English. Here there are a lot of Hindi people and some other different religions. It's just different. I really do love Suriname though.

I love the church members here. They are awesome! So nice and strong in the church. There are a lot more families here than there were in St. Vincent. I'm growing closer to the members and building relationships. Yesterday in church we taught YW's and Sunday School. We prepared for YW's so that went well, but Sunday school for the Youth, we were asked on the spot so it didn't go so well. This is only because I didn't have my Dutch sentences or scriptures prepared.

I speak something called Nader-Engeles which is like a mix between English and Dutch- haha. I still am having a very hard time forming sentences and knowing which conjugation to use, but it's coming little by little. I have such a long way to go. That's when I'm grateful that I still have like a year to learn! One thing I love about staying in Suriname my whole mission is that I get to stay with the same members the whole time. By the end they will see how much I have learned...hopefully. The scary thing is that I'm bound to one day train someone else in this language.

I can't believe the weather in Utah! WOW! That's crazy. Almost as hot here :) I think that it is so cool mom and dad, that you are learning Tagalog. Keep up the good work! It'll be interesting if you will understand anything once you get there. That is going to be so cool!

Congrats Jacob! I totally broke the mission law and had to watch the Woodies video. SO COOL! Tell me more about your life and business please!

Leona is adorable!! I can't believe how big she is already. I hope you are showing her pictures of me every day and reading my letters aloud to her.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well!! Love you all and keep being awesome! I miss you all.

Love,
Elizabeth
